VALVE ACTUATOR AND POSITION CONTROLLER

 


KMI’s Self Contained Hydraulic Valve Actuators combine an in-cylinder linear transducer that has an analog output control signal of 4 -20ma or 0-10Vdc.

The position controller to drive the actuator has all the functionality to provide a selective positionforce-speed profile in a stand-alone package, or remotely controlled through a central control station. The actuator is simply connected to an electrical power source. KMI Valve actuators operate by direct drive between a standard variable speed AC or DC motor and a high efficiency bi-directional hydraulic pump. Driving the motor in a CW or CCW direction extends or retracts the actuator at infinitely variable speeds within the operating range of the motor. Stopping and starting the actuator in any position is achieved simply by stopping and starting the motor. Electrical power is consumed only when the motor is running, to extend or retract the actuator. When stopped in any position of its stroke, the actuator is solidly locked – failed last, and will hold any load within the relief stage setting of the integral load holding valve.

Typical applications include precise modulation of large plug and globe valves. They are inherently lubricated and completely sealed, therefore require virtually no maintenance.

In addition to being used as a PID controller, it can be used as a local switching device, (latching or momentary), as a remote open-close switching device, or as a PID positioner, which will cause the actuator to respond to a 4 - 20mA or 0-10VDC control signal.

Adjustable features of the positioner include –

  1. Rate of deceleration to the set point .

  2. Actuator performance.

  3. Dead band.

  4. Hysteresis band .

  5. Motor time out value.

  6. Maximum motor speed.

  7. Motor overload protection values.

  8. “Fail-To”mode on loss of control signal or position signal.
